How do I ensure ventilation and prevent humidity in a cellar?
Wherever the cellar is, it needs a ventilation system. You need not only an outlet for the warm, humid air, but also a dry air inlet. The greater the pressure difference, the better the ventilation. Air inlets and outlets should be as far apart as possible — ideally in opposite corners of the room. The outlet should sit close to the ceiling and the inlet close to the floor so the pressure difference is greater. Airflow should be adjustable to suit changing weather. To prevent condensation, the outlet ventilation can be insulated with polyethylene foam and foil — this provides thermal protection and guards against condensation. Fit the inlet and outlet with small roofs so rodents cannot get into the cellar.
What is a garden cellar and how does it work?
A ready-made cellar is a hermetic underground room for storing food. The natural coolness of the ground keeps the temperature stable all year, so no electricity is needed. Proper ventilation, which regulates humidity and air exchange, is essential.
How is a cellar built and installed?
First we survey the site and recommend the best solution. The ready-made cellar is manufactured in the factory, delivered and set into a prepared pit. On-site installation usually takes a single day, without lengthy construction works.
How do I choose between a concrete, plastic and composite cellar?
Concrete is massive but prone to moisture and cracking. Polyethylene (HDPE) and composite cellars are hermetic, light, resistant to corrosion and water, and last for decades. The choice depends on the ground, volume and budget — we will help you choose during a consultation.
How much does a cellar cost and what affects the price?
The price is set by the cellar’s volume, material, entry type (vertical or sloped) and installation conditions. Small garden cellars are the most affordable option; larger models cost more. Current prices are shown on each product page, and we prepare an exact quote after surveying the site.
What is correct cellar ventilation?
You need both a dry air inlet (near the floor) and a warm, humid air outlet (near the ceiling), placed in opposite corners. A rotating deflector that harnesses wind energy improves the draught. Airflow should be adjustable, and outlets should be fitted with small roofs against rodents.
How do I prevent humidity in a cellar?
Humidity is controlled by proper ventilation with a sufficient pressure difference, insulation of the outlet ventilation against condensation, and a hermetic body. Adjustable airflow lets you adapt to the weather and avoid condensation building up.
How is a cellar waterproofed?
The body of a polyethylene or composite cellar is itself hermetic and watertight, so it does not need separate waterproofing the way masonry cellars do. Where the groundwater level is high, correct ballasting and a proper base are used during installation — we assess this during the survey.
What is the difference between an above-ground and an underground cellar?
An underground (buried) cellar uses the natural coolness of the ground and holds a stable temperature better, so it is the most popular choice for food storage. Above-ground or partly buried solutions are useful where a high groundwater level or the ground prevents digging a deep pit.

What is the difference between a shelter and a bunker?
In everyday language the two words are used interchangeably. A shelter usually means a room for protecting people during a threat, while a bunker refers to a reinforced underground or above-ground structure. How do NBC/CBRN ventilation and blast protection work?
NBC/CBRN ventilation and filtration systems clean incoming air of dust and chemical, biological and radioactive contaminants and keep a slight overpressure in the room so contaminated air cannot enter. Blast valves protect the ventilation ducts from the shock wave. The system must be sized to the room volume and number of occupants.
How much air is enough for how many people, and how long can you stay in a shelter?
This depends on the room volume, the number of people and the capacity of the ventilation system. The ventilation and filter set is chosen to match the planned number of occupants. We will help you calculate a suitable system and equipment for your shelter during a consultation.

Do I need a building permit for a cellar or bunker?
Requirements depend on the type and size of the object and the rules of your municipality, so before installation it is advisable to contact your local building authority (būvvalde) and find out whether a building permit or a notification is required. This is general information, not legal advice.
What are the VUGD requirements for shelters and safe rooms?
Current requirements and recommendations for shelters and temporary shelters are set by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) and the relevant regulations. We recommend reviewing the information published by VUGD and, if needed, consulting the service. We do not provide specific regulatory thresholds.
Does the state support building a shelter?
Support programmes and their conditions can change over time. We recommend following current national and municipal information about possible support for civil-protection solutions. Always verify exact conditions in official sources.

How long does it take to install a cellar or bunker?
Installing a cellar on site usually takes a single day once the pit is prepared. For larger bunkers and shelters the time can vary depending on the site and the amount of equipment — we agree an exact schedule after the survey.
What groundwater level is suitable for installation?
A high groundwater level does not rule out installation, but it affects the solution: correct ballasting, a base or anchoring may be needed to hold the hermetic body in place. We assess suitability for your specific site during the survey.
What is the warranty and service life?
The hermetic body, made from environmentally friendly materials, is built to last for decades. Specific warranty terms for each product are confirmed before ordering — ask about them during your consultation.
How do delivery and installation across Latvia work?
We deliver and install cellars and shelters throughout Latvia and the Baltics. After the site survey we agree a delivery and installation date and carry out the work with our own team.
